Five Star Review

July 2021

Come join the adventure of little Benny in his emotional quest to learn if his mother will still love him when his little sister is born. Ellen Krohne has touched upon an important question for any family that is growing. In her book, The Secret of a Mommy’s Love, she shares how a mom can continue to love her child even when a new one is born. Benny is anxious and asks his cousins and brother if his mom will still love him. Their answers not being satisfactory enough, he then goes to seek the wisdom that comes from his grandmother and grandfather. Grandma Yellow’s answer is priceless. However, she still explains the answer in terms that younger children can understand.

Ellen Krohne is a grandmother first and then an author. Her first two books dealt with the subject of grief. Since her grandchildren were too young to understand such a heavy subject, she collaborated with them to write The Secret of a Mommy’s Love. This excellent little book deals with the normal childhood fear that when a new baby is born, the parent’s love for the child will diminish. Ellen writes in an easy-to-understand manner about a hard-to-comprehend topic. She makes sure her words of wisdom for children can be easily absorbed. Martina Terzi has done a masterful job of illustrating the story with pictures that children will enjoy. Her artwork makes the story come alive. The words and the art complement each other to bring delight to young children and parents alike.
